We had a wonderful day at Tribe, Bitts Park on Saturday 19th June, the main event of Refugee Week 2022 in Carlisle.
Over 150 refugees from all over the world, people who have fled war and persecution and are now living in Carlisle, came together with members of the public to enjoy food, entertainment, sport, games and information about life in Carlisle.
The day was organised by members of Carlisle City of Sanctuary Group, Carlisle Refugee Action Group and Carlisle City Council with great support from staff and food outlets at Tribe Carlisle. Stalls from Anti-Racist Cumbria, Carlisle College, Multicultural Cumbria, Local Police and the organising groups provided information, face painting, free tombolas and more!
One of the highlights was the Dabka dancing session, led by members of the local Syrian community.
The Deputy Mayor of Carlisle, Colin Glover, spoke at the event to welcome all refugees and asylum seekers to the city.
It was truly a great day, with the sun shining down on us all! We’re looking forward to the next event on Sunday 17th July 12 – 4pm!
